Tips on Researching Laser Rangefinders

As the holidays close in and the shoppers hit the stores, you may be struggling to come up with a great gift idea for someone that is difficult to shop for. Well if this person happens to be either a golfing afficionado or the great hunter, then we have a great gift idea that you might consider.

One of the most difficult things about shopping for an enthusiast of any kind is that they tend to be particular about their choice in gear and if they are like most, they probably have already purchased what they really want anyways. There are certain items though, that they might not be willing to spend the money for as they do not deem it as necessary to their sport. It would be nice to have, but not necessary.

My wife recently bought me a cool new gadget, a golf laser rangefinder. These items are used to measure the distance to various objects that you point them at. I have always seen them and kind of wanted one for myself but I wasn’t willing to spend the money on what I considered a toy. I welcomed it as a gift, but I just didn’t feel right spending my own money. If this sounds like your situation, then read on.

When trying to buy something like this, it can be a lesson in frustration. There are so many different models and features and most people don’t really know much about an item like this so its hard to get any advice from a salesperson. in my opinion, then best thing you can do with an item like this is research it online and find some quality rangefinder reviews. Locate the rangefinder that looks like it would be the right one and then purchase where you can get the best deal. My wife bought mine on Amazon and saved about 90 bucks compared to the local Bass Pro shop.

A few minutes reading the various rangefinder reviews online will turn you from an amateur to a very educated consumer. Once you’ve read what more experienced buyers of these units like and dislike about each unit, then you can make a very educated purchase decision.

After using that rangefinder that my wife bought me, I would say it might be the best gift I’ve gotten in years. It saved me a lot of steps running from one side of the fairway to the other, trying to locate marker pins, spot objects, calculate club distance etc. I would not have bought one for myself, but I am really glad she bought one for me. A great gift idea for sure.

So do your research, study up on the product, find the right rangefinder for your own situation and then make a good purchase that saves you money and is a good value. That sounds like good advice to me.

Looking to find the best deal on laser rangefinders, then visit Jack Duncan’s site and find a great deal on a quality rangefinder, the Bushnell Scout Rangefinder. Great choice.

Are Nike Golf Shoes Any Good?

Nike golf shoes are one of the pieces of equipment you can use to improve your game. If you have only played golf in casual footwear before, or if you’re just looking for a way to improve your general game, investing in a good pair of golf shoes can make a huge difference. Just like in other sports, the shoes you have on can directly affect your game.

Since you have to develop a smooth swing and be able to follow through on that swing in golf, all without losing any control of the strength in your stroke, your golf shoes can assist or spoil your game for you. Nike golf shoes are designed to help you balance, gripping the turf as much as needed and allowing you to put full power and control behind each and every swing.

Since these golf shoes have special compartments in the heels, every step is easier and lighter to make. They put a spring in your step and yet offer the level of support your feet, legs and knees require in order to enjoy playing your game of golf very comfortably for longer periods of time.

Since golf very often involves a great deal of walking, Nike golf shoes have been made like a blend of walking shoe and golf shoe. They cushion the joints of your legs and knees against the impact from each step you take, allowing you to concentrate your strength and effort on your game of golf, rather than on how you are going to get to the next hole or to wherever it is that your ball has landed.

When you go to buy Nike golf shoes, there are several things that you should bear in mind. The first thing you need to consider is what level of skill you have achieved. Golf, like many other sports, has equipment that can be used by beginners or advanced professionals alike.

In most cases, beginners pick the Nike golf shoes suited for professionals, but rarely end up finding the full potential of the shoe, as they do not know how to get the most out of the shoes.

While professionals can get great advantage out of these Nike golf shoes, it is often better for beginners to purchase an entry level golf shoe that will better suit their needs. The increase in power afforded to your stroke will usually be lost on those who are novices, as they do not yet have the skill to control the stroke as they need to.

Therefore, it is best to buy Nike golf shoes that fit your skill level, as these shoes will have the comfort and functionality you need. You can purchase Nike golf shoes from a variety of sources. For those who want cheaper shoes and the same quality of professional shoes, you can purchase last season’s shoes from Nike outlet centers.

If you only want to wear top of the range Nike golf shoes, you can purchase from online Nike stockists or through a variety of online retail vendors (see below).

Buying golf equipment can be like throwing your money onto the fire, but armed with some fore-knowledge you can save yourself some time and money when you’re selecting golf clubs for yourself. As with most things in life, you can either spend a lot of money in one go or you can spend a little several times, until you get what you really want.

If you are just beginning and are not completely sure that you want to commit yourself to the addictive game of golf, you should either rent golf clubs at the clubhouse on the golf course, or buy a starter set of golf clubs.

Buying a set of starter golf clubs allows you to become accustomed to them; enabling you to concentrate on your swing instead of wondering how this set of miss-matched golf clubs you just rented is going to work out.

After you become better acquainted with the game of golf, you should consider investing in a better set of golf clubs which are more suited to you.

Generally, a set includes a driver, one or two fairway woods, numbers 4-9 irons, a wedge or two and a putter.

Once you become more experienced and start thinking about new clubs, you may want to consider buying your driver as a separate item. Some players want a driver to give them more accuracy, others need more distance.

There are numerous types of golf ball available and the golf ball box will usually have a chart on the back to direct you to the right ball for your needs. As you learn more about the game and get better at it, you should experiment with different balls which could improve your accuracy and/or distance.

Having the right golf equipment is an important aspect of the game, so take care and buy wisely!

Fashion and Ladies Golf Apparel

I was perusing one of those ‘Golfing for Women’ magazines the other day and started wondering where the women live, who wear the golf attire modeled in women’s golfing magazines? I’ve never seen women, not even the professionals, who would wear such expensive and outrageous clothes.

It’s easy to spend money kitting yourself out for golf: hats, sunglasses, gloves, shirts, shorts, socks, windbreakers and shoes all add up quickly, even if you shop at the sales. Then add in equipment, bag and cart and you have to play quite often to keep the “CPU” – cost per use down to an acceptable level.

One half-page glossy advert showed a beautiful young ‘golfing lady’ in very tiny hot-pants (as if that’s allowed on golfing greens!) that cost nearly $300, a golf shirt at almost $600, a jacket by Ralph Lauren at almost $200 and two-toned Utuser shoes costing $400 plus.

That comes to almost $1,500! I know that I could never hope to get the CPU on that outfit down to anywhere near a normal limit in my lifetime! Don’t get me wrong – I love clothes and I really love shoes, but could never afford, or even want, golf shoes or pants that cost more than most people’s weekly wage.

OK, you need comfy golfing shoes that don’t look like an old pair of wooden clogs, but honestly, you will be able to find cheaper and yet still trendy golfing shoes.

I have several really trendy golf outfits, although none of them are famous brand names. If I totalled up the cost of all of those articles of clothing, it would not add up to the price of a Tse golf shirt. Personally, I would prefer to have several stylish outfits than one that is priced over-the-top.

If I were to wear a $1,500 outfit to play golf, I would simply be too worried about getting it dirty or perspiring in it to play a decent round.

There are so many companies making golf clubs currently. Every company have so many models which makes for many combination. If you are a golfer, are you able to pick out the right golf clubs for yourself?

Every company has their own technology which is different than others. Read more to find out about the popular club manufacturers.

Cobra Golf has Camilo Villegas as their sponsor who is playing so well. The most expensive driver they carry is the Cobra L5V which promises maximum face area for its look.

Adams Golf is known for its hybrids but they also started to enter the arena of drivers in recent years. Their latest technology, the Adams Insight Tech A4 driver, has a street price of $370 and comes in loft 8.5, 9.5, and 10.5. It has a pretty traditional looking club head, and the curved shape is supposed to save weight.

Callaway Golf is very good at making clubs that are very forgiving. The FT-9 driver from Callaway is its latest and it’s a very good looking club head. It also sports a ton of different lofts and options (9,10,11 degrees neutral, 9,10,11,13 in draw, 8.5,9.5,10.5 in tou and 8.5,9.5,10.5 in tour draw).

Nike Golf catapulted into the golf scene with the endorsement of Tiger Woods. I’m sure they are hard at work and Tiger must love being able to test all the different options and help them in designing the golf clubs to golf balls.

Lynx is mainly a second rated customs component manufacturer and their fairway wood heads aren’t considered that great. However, the price point is good and if you think that shafts are all that matter, this may be a good choice as well.

As the golf game evolves, so do golf club manufacturers. These days, there are so many different companies making clubs and they all make many different models. How are people supposed to find the right ones?

So many different companies with so much technology. Continue reading for more popular club manufacturers.

Cobra Golf’s latest high end driver is the L5V with a street price of $400. It uses a carbon composite and have adjustments to change the angle of the face by 1 degree if desired.

Adams Golf sponsors Tom Watson and is known with its amazing hybrid technology. The Adams Speedline though is its great new driver that has captured the hearts of many, including the Hot List 2009 as it won gold. The rounded sole takes getting used to because it might rock back and forth at address off the tee but once you get used to it, expect to hit it looooong.

Callaway Golf is really pushing the envelope with its high end drivers (all its 2009 models are over $350 a piece). They made two drivers. One with a more traditional shape (FT-9) and one a square shape (FT-IQ). Both are amazingly long and Phil is already using the FT-9. He’s not trying crazy things like two drivers though anymore but who knows as he might use the drivers to chip.

Nike Golf catapulted into the golf scene with the endorsement of Tiger Woods. I’m sure they are hard at work and Tiger must love being able to test all the different options and help them in designing the golf clubs to golf balls.

Callaway Golf almost stands for forgiveness. They also pioneered the uniflex shaft used in its irons. The Callaway FT-IQ is its latest square shaped driver. If you can get pass the sound that it makes (and the shape), you will bomb it. The driver is amazingly straight even though your golf buddies might make fun of you for cheating.

Nike Golf has steadily made it into one of the most popular golf manufacturers by signing up Tiger Woods, Anthony Kim and others. In fact, Nike sponsored many of the top golfers in the world and has many amazing drivers.

Lynx is a smaller component player and this choice will make perfect sense if price is a concern. However, coupled with a great shaft, it will still perform.

This girl can play ball. I wouldn’t want to bet with her on the golf course and you shouldn’t either. Lorena Ochoa with her golf bag will kill any golfer in no time.

Used Golf Club Sets: How To Choose The Right One

August 24, 2009 by Karlo Smich
Filed under Featured, Golf Clubs

When you want to buy a used golf club sets, how do you know which one is right for you? Ofcourse you have a number of choices to make. Finding used golf club sets can be as simple as going to the golf store in town and pick a set from the shelf with the golf brand that you already acquainted with. You can also attend any garage sales, try a couple of swings and then take them to the tee immediately. There is nothing wrong with these ‘non-scientific’ approaches. However, the chances of choosing a used golf club sets that is right for you with the correct loft, shaft stiffness, grip size and etc are very slim.

So, selecting correctly used golf club sets is very crucial. This is particularly true for the poorer and physically weaker players because finding the right golf clubs can help these players more than anything. So, the more you know about golf equipment, the better chance of getting a golf club sets that matches you. Below is a list that you need to reckon before selecting a used golf club sets (in reality, the measures below is also applicative when purchasing afresh golf club sets) :

Golf Set Composition

According to the principles of golf game, you are able to carry up to a maximum of 14 clubs in your golf bag at any one time. However, there is no restriction on what 14 clubs you should be carrying. As a consequence, you should determine the golf set composition that fits your strengths and weaknesses. Generally, you should reject all the long irons – the 1, 2 and probably even the 3-iron because they are unforgiving and most difficult to hit. Nearly all golfers carry 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 irons plus a putter in their bag and that takes up seven clubs in your bag.

Next, let’s begin with the shortest clubs (pitching, sand and lob wedges). It is suggested to carry three wedges with different loft. First off, you have to recognize how far you’ll be able to hit a full swing with all three wedges. It is really usual that the yardage gap between them is significant. For instance, you can hit a hundred yards with pitching wedge and sixty yards with a lob wedge respectively. In this example, you get a gap of forty yards between your pitching wedge and lob wedge. If you carry only these two wedges in your bag, you will have problem if you leave yourself with a shot of about eighty yards. Consequently, you have to carry a 80-yard sand wedge to fill up that gap. That’s the reason why you are suggested to carry three wedges. That gives you 4 more clubs to select.

For the longest clubs, naturally, you should carry a driver and 3-wood. That provides you with 2 more clubs to consider. Since long irons such as 1-, 2-, or even 3-iron are hard to control and too unforgiving. You are suggested to substitute the long irons with 2 lofted woods, 5-wood and a 7-wood respectively (depending on how far you hit, you are able to look at 4-wood and 6-wood as an alternative). These clubs are designed to be more forgiving, even it is hit off-center, you still can get the ball airborne more easily and move at a moderately distance.

In a nutshell, your golf set composition will comprise of:

* Driver
* 3-, 5-, 7-wood
* 4-, 5- and 6-irons (medium irons)
* 7-, 8- and 9-irons (short irons)
* Pitching, sand, lob (wedges)
* Putter

Golf Shafts

Selecting the right shaft for you game is definitely one of the most important club determinations to be made. Golf shaft flexes as you swing, it produces no power itself, but transmits it to the club head. The stored-up energy is delivered at this precise moment of impact. There are two major materials used for shafts: steel and graphite. In general, steel shafts are cheaper but heavier and it is used by most of the Tour pro. While graphite shafts are more expensive but lighter are ideal for the average golfer.

Remember, distance is a product of mass and speed. Meaning, a heavy club head paired with the speed you swing it will bring about farther distance. As graphite shaft is lighter, it allows the manufacturer to choose fractionally heavier club heads while making the overall club weight lighter. As a result, it allows average golf player to swing the club faster and that transforms into more distance. Furthermore, graphite shafts also have the benefits of better vibration absorption, ease of swing and create a better ‘feel’ to your shots.

A shaft that is too elastic will create inconsistency at impact. In contrast, too stiff a shaft leaves the ball out right and loses distance. While the correct flex will hit straight shots. The flexibility of the shaft is marked on the shaft band, with ‘R’ (Regular flex) or ‘L’. You have to reckon your height, build and strength when you select the shaft. If you are tall and strong, you probably need a longer and stiffer shaft as stiffer flexes is more appropriate for stronger and low-handicap golf players. Generally, a regular flex shafts is suggested.

Golf Grip Size

Grip size is very important, as it is the only contact point you have with the club. You need a grip that let you feel confident all the time, instead of the feeling of going to ‘lose’ it. Therefore, you have to make certain the grips fit you. A grip that is too small will encourage too much hand action in your swing and you will find that you can’t hang on to the clubs. In contrast, a grip that is too large will restrict your hand action. So what grip size do you need? The bigger your hands are, the bigger sized grip you need and vice versa. In general, a “right” grip size should allow both of your middle and ring fingers barely touch the pad of your thumb.

Majority of grips are fitted with rubber or cord material because it offers good playability in all weather conditions. Leather material is not recommended for beginner, as it is expensive and hardest to maintain. Finally, you want to ensure that the grips are all of the same size and design and that they are always in immaculate condition. You should replace your grips when you start to struggle to hold the club properly. Don’t wait until your grips set hard and slick with age. Grips can be replaced at reasonable cost in a pro shop or repair shop.

Golf Drivers

Golf driver is the club that we pay most attention because it is the longest, biggest and most expensive golf clubs in the golf bag. Due to the technology advancement in golf, golf driver design has reached a very high standard. With newer, bigger and oversize golf drivers, it has made driving much easier and helped you to hit the ball longer. The larger club head simply makes it easier to make solid contact and to get the golf ball airborne, because of the way the weight is distributed.

Most of the novice golfers have problem handling golf drivers. If you have trouble with your tee shots, you should get a golf driver with Titanium club heads as they are lighter and stronger hence allowing a much larger club heads design. The oversized club head with larger sweet spot is more forgiving even if your hit is off-center. Moreover, make sure you play with a golf driver that has more than 10 degrees of clubface loft. Because lower loft tend to amplify your inaccurate hit. For example, if you have the tendency to slice from the tee box, lower loft golf driver will produce more sidespin and could amplify into a huge slice.

For low handicap players, you can get a golf driver with stainless steel club heads as they are cheaper and slightly heavier than the titanium club heads. Due to its heavier club heads, the club head size is usually smaller which translate into smaller sweet spot. Low handicap players with faster swing speed can choose the higher driver loft that has less than or equal to 10 degrees (Handicap: < 9, loft: 7- 9 degrees, Handicap: 9 – 18, loft: 10 degrees).

Golf Irons

There are two types of golf irons: the traditional, forged iron and the modern, cast irons (or perimeter weighted iron). It is recommended for average golfers to select a cast club head design which concentrates more metal at the perimeter, as the golf ball need not be struck exactly from the center in order to benefit from a solid contact and produce maximum distance. Likewise, it is better to choose oversized club heads irons for beginner. The oversize irons obviously have a larger hitting surface, much like the larger tennis racquet, would make the game easier. However, experience golfer who wants more control should select forged irons with standard size club head size.

Golf Putters

Today, putters come in all sizes, lengths and shapes. There are oversized putting heads, long shafts or a combination of the two. How do you choose a putter? Most importantly, choose a putter that produces the most ‘feel’. In general, a heavyweight putter provides the most solid strike on impact and therefore offers the best ‘feel’. In addition, choose a putter that is suitable for your height and build. In any cases, putters are much more a matter of personal preference and style. So, try out all kinds of putter and choose the one that you’re most comfortable with.

Clubbed To Death? Your Wallet May Think So.

Anyone who takes up golf will have one immediate and expensive concern to take care of – the equipment. And we are not talking about offensively garish knitwear and those hats with sun visors on them although, if you are interested, those will cost a pretty penny too. No, think more along the lines of the equipment you will need in order to actually play the game. If you are going to play golf with any kind of regularity, and any kind of seriousness, then let’s just say that golf clubs – in both senses of the word “clubs” – will take up quite a bit of your disposable income.

This piece, though, will concentrate on the clubs that you carry around with you, the ones you use to hit the ball. A casual glance may have you believing that these are very simple items, made from metal, wood or some combination thereof, with a rubber grip. But if you are to fit in down at the country club, you will need state-of-the-art clubs to play with. The latest clubs are all the result of a lot of research and some extremely technical design work, built to optimise the distance you can get on your drives, the spin on your approach shots, and the accuracy in your putting game. These are the kinds of club that Woods, Mickelson and Els use and, although they won’t make you play like the professionals, they will give you some of the advantages those guys have.

The fact is, for a decent beginner’s set of golf clubs you will be looking at potentially getting no change from an outlay of $300. This will be a set that contains three woods (unfortunately, not Tiger – he would help anyone’s game), five irons, a driver, a putter and two recovery clubs (usually a pitching wedge and a sand wedge). There are more clubs available, and the average professional will have a few more in their bag so that every situation is covered. But those guys can afford to pay a caddy to carry their bag, and pay them handsomely to carry more weight. Unless you have that kind of money to spend, it is worth taking into account that the average beginners’ sets will suit your needs admirably, and individual clubs can always be added as and when you feel the need (and as your caddy’s upper-body strength improves).
